Among the many things mentioned in the Bible, and the many more that Jesus spoke about, birds seem to be a common thread, and I wanted to capture that. Birds appear nearly 300 times in Scripture. They are mentioned both literally, as part of creation, and symbolically, to teach a lesson.
For me, though, this painting represents two particular moments. The first is when Jesus was baptized and the Spirit of God descended like a dove and rested on Him. The second is a reminder of what King David writes in Psalm 19:1: "The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims His handiwork".
I imagined all the moments Jesus was around, coming and going, speaking, serving, and loving and healing, as birds followed Him around.
